Diablo 4's later World Tiers require players to complete capstone dungeons, unique dungeons that feature bosses with multiple mechanics, tough monsters, and multiple objectives. Beating these dungeons is quite difficult but required to access the best items and rewarding endgame systems.

The Fallen Temple is the second capstone dungeon in Diablo 4, tied to unlocking World Tier 4 and Ancestral-tier Nightmare Dungeons. This dungeon is considerably harder than the Cathedral of Light and shouldn't be taken lightly. This guide will cover how to unlock this dungeon, how to complete each encounter, and provide tips on defeating the dungeon's final boss.

The Fallen Temple dungeon is available upon unlocking World Tier 3, although the dungeon itself is set to level 70. Most players that unlock World Tier 3 will be far below this recommended level, so it's imperative that you level your character and improve your items before attempting this dungeon. You'll find the Fallen Temple in the Dry Steppes, located near the eastern corner of the zone.

Compared to the Cathedral of Light, Fallen Temple features three encounters and one boss fight. This boss is far stronger than anything else you've fought thus far, capable of instantly killing most characters that are underleveled or poorly geared. It is highly recommended that you reach level 67 or higher before attempting this dungeon. You'll also want to stack as much armor and damage reduction as possible to stay alive. As tough as this boss can be, you have unlimited revives. Learn the bosses patterns, and virtually every build should be able to clear this dungeon.

Unlike most dungeons in Diablo 4, the start of Fallen Temple lets you pick which encounter you'll complete first. You'll be given two options:

Both sections play identically to one another, but the main difference is the debuff you'll receive. Clearing the left side will impose a weakness debuff, causing you to take more damage from enemies if you haven't killed any demons recently. The right side will impose a crowd control debuff, causing stuns and other control-impairing effects to last longer on you. You'll have to clear both sides to proceed, so both debuffs will be active for the final section. Just beware of these effects as you progress.

Once you've cleared both sides, you'll be directed to the lower floor of the Fallen Temple. This section requires you to collect Animus from slain Elites with both debuffs active simultaneously. Kill adds whenever possible to remove both debuff stacks. If you solely focus on killing Elites, these debuffs will grow so large that you will either get one-shot or stunlocked. Hardcore characters should navigate through this section carefully, luring Elites away from groups whenever possible.

Collecting enough Animus will mark the boss entrance on your map. Head to that location, kill the two Elites that spawn, and deposit your Animus energy. This will open the path to the final boss. Restock on potions and drink an elixir. Hardcore characters will want to use the Death Evasion Elixir before starting this fight.

Elias is the final boss of this dungeon, and he's become far more deadly since the last time you fought him. This fight consists of five phases, each getting progressively more difficult. The lower Elias' health gets, the more chaotic the fight will become. If your build lacks high DPS or is a glass cannon, you'll want to stun Elias before you remove a portion of his health. His stagger meter is fairly easy to break, so spam any stun abilities you have.

This boss has a few notable attacks you'll want to watch out for:

The start of the fight consists of mostly bolt attacks followed by the occasional flame wave and barrage of minions. Stay away from Elias when he prepares an attack, and focus on breaking his stagger meter. Stunning this boss will stun all summoned minions as well, giving you a safe window to deal damage.

Lowering Elias' health to roughly half will cause all abilities to become enhanced. He'll fire more projectiles, summon more demons, and release three flame waves instead of just one. This gets quite chaotic when he starts summoning minions, so kill any demons that spawn as quickly as possible. Fewer demons will make it easier to track Elias' attacks. Once again, stunning Elias is also an option if your build is capable of doing so.

Overall, you'll want to keep your distance from Elias, create an attack window by stunning him, and kill any adds that spawn. If done properly, he should be dead in only a couple of staggers. Defeat Elias to clear the dungeon and unlock World Tier 4.
